What this quote means to women entrepreneurs:
When I heard Carrey say that in his commencement address for the Maharishi University of Management, I paused the video, rewound, and listened again. A little later he would say, “We’re not the avatars we create. We’re not the pictures on the film stock. We are the light that shines through. All else is just smoke and mirrors, distracting but not truly compelling.”

I truly believe those words and I try to live them every day. That is why my brand is “Own Your Awesome” — for when you own your awesome, you let your light shine through. You throw your emotional armor to the floor, knowing that you don’t need it. For, like Bernard M. Baruch once said, “those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

This message is becoming especially clear to me through this year’s Celebrate You 31-Day Challenge. I’m finding that things that I do that would bother my ex-husband or my ex-boyfriend, not only don’t bother my current boyfriend but he either barely notices or loves me because of those things.

He matters and he doesn’t mind.

It is a brave thing to shine your light. But if you don’t you will live a small, barely visible life. Only you can shine the light that leads the way down your path. No other person’s light will show you your way.

Therefore, I encourage you to remove all obstacles to your light. Let yourself shine and you will find your tribe … or rather they will finally be able to find you.
