It has almost been a year since my little sister passed away. Last month, as one of my advanced manual presentations through Toastmasters, I gave a speech speaking in praise about her. I present it here today for two reasons:
Many people enjoyed reading the post I wrote about her last year, and I thought you might enjoy this speech, as well.
Note: “Dulcify” was the word of the day … that’s why I used it.
72 million primary school-aged children around the world have never attended school. That’s 1 out of 10 children.
Without an education, these children will never be able to break the vicious cycle of poverty. But we can help change that.
To honor the memory of my little sister, who passed away just before her 42nd birthday in May 2013, I’ve launched a campaign through A Right To Learn to raise the funds needed to build and furnish a schoolhouse in a community in Kenya (where Toni was born).
It takes about 425 to 500 bricks to build a schoolhouse. Each brick costs about $20, so my goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000.
A Right To Learn is a program of the Unstoppable Foundation. Their model not only provides education for the children of the community but the adults, as well. In addition, they help communities gain access to clean water and sanitation, food and nutrition, and basic healthcare.
Together, we can help support these life-saving services … and it all starts with one brick. Don’t despair if you don’t have $20 to give right now … any donation amount will help me reach my goal.
