Weekday Wisdom with Carma Spence, Episode 14
What is hobbypreneurism?
Can you make money doing something that you totally geek out on? Of course, you can! That’s what I’m going to talk about over the next several days.
Last year, as part of a Facebook Live challenge, I recorded 21 Facebook videos on the topic of hobbypreneurism. The next several Weekday Wisdom episodes will be pulling from those videos.
Today, I want to share with you what I mean by the term “hobbypreneur.” Basically what I’m talking about is making money from something that you’re really passionate about. In fact, you would do that activity even if no one paid you. But, let’s see what I said about it a couple of months ago.
An introduction to hobbypreneurism.
What is hobbypreneurism? Well, it’s probably what you think it is. It’s an entrepreneur who creates a business around their hobby. In other words, let’s there’s something that you really geek out about … actually one of my friends she geeks out about quilting. And so she created a business where she sells frames for quilts. Another friend of mine has an interior design business that she created from her hobby of interior design.
This is what hobbypreneurs do: They take something they love to do, that they’ve been doing on the side anyway — They totally geek out on it. They research it. They live it. They love it. It’s it’s their life. — And they turn it into a business.
Why am I talking about this? Well, what I do is I help these hobbypreneurs create information products that help build their business. I help them create products that are based on their knowledge, their skills, and what their genius zone is. I help them help others enjoy their hobby as well.
Don’t box yourself in.
Spread your wings and fly.
You — yes you — are capable of more than you know.
