“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” – William James

What you do makes a difference.

I am a firm believer in looking for the silver lining in bad situations. In fact, my fiance likes to tell the story of the first thing I said to him when he came to see me in the hospital the nigh of my accident. He came to my bedside and was stricken with grief upon looking at my bloody and damaged face. He held my hand, tears in his eyes and I said, “I can’t wait to see what good comes of this.”

And good things have come of this experience. One of those good things was learning how, by being myself, I was having a positive impact on the world. The outpouring of love and some of the stories shared through Facebook made me realize that I was a good role model and people were inspired by watching me, well, be me.

You have no idea how — or sometimes even who — you are having a positive affect. But you are making a difference, so why not act as if you are?

Day 13 Exercise

  1. Look for evidence that you matter. You’ll find it in social media posts, a smile on someone’s face or a thank you on someone lists. Trust me … you matter and the evidence is there every day.
  2. Catch yourself being Awesome at least once today … and celebrate it well.
  3. Continue to add to your list of what you love about you.

Want Brownie Points? Post something from your list of Awesome in the Facebook Group! And be sure to use the #CelebrateYou hashtag.
