Day 21: Facing challenges and finding blessings anyway

by | Aug 22, 2013 | 2013 Celebrate You!, Celebrate You!, Mindset

swollen eyeYesterday was the hardest day to find celebration in. I woke up with a swollen eye and a client said they were going to pay me two weeks past the time I planned on using that money. But blessings and celebration I still found.

Remember how I said I went to see a friend speak the other day? Well, apparently while I was there, I was mauled by mosquitos. I have two bites on my forehead, one or more on my right ring finger, and three on my back.

I’m allergic to mosquito bites. When one bites me, the bite swells up to the size of a 50-cent piece or more.

The two bites on my forehead swelled so bad, I looked like a half-Neanderthal when I woke up. And, as the day progressed, the swelling fluid dripped down my face. By the time I went to bed … as pictured above … my eyelid was swollen, and so was the space below my eye.

But, the Universe knew that I was determined to find a celebration through all the discomfort and so brought me several blessings throughout the day.

The package of birthday presents from my Mom arrived. I love receiving packages. Even if it is stupid stuff I didn’t order, I get a thrill when a package for me arrives. I’ve been like that since I was a little kid!

When I saw that it was from my mother, I gave her a call and we had a really nice conversation. You see, my Mom is one of my best friends. We have a lot in common and, when we get together, we just can’t stop talking. My cousin Mike and I are like that, too. I’m really blessed to have such wonderful people in my family. Not everyone can say that.

I made a fantastic barbecued chicken and made pasta Alfredo with sauteed mushrooms on the side. Delish!

I finalized the details of my live Internet radio show for today. You can tune in at 11am Pacific time here: bit.ly/swoopslive.

I hope this illustrates that no matter how bad a day may seem, blessings are there to be found. I could have wallowed in self-pity (and I’ll admit, I had my moments — the itching on my back is maddening), but I’ve made a commitment to not only find things to be grateful for every day of my life but to find celebrations every day of this month. When you make a commitment to be thankful every day, the Universe will bring you things to be grateful for.

How did you celebrate you yesterday? Did you get a surprise in the mail? Did you talk with a good friend? Did you have an especially good meal? Please share your celebrations, insights, comments, and wisdom in a comment below.
