Day 5 of Celebrate You!

Celebrate You! Daily Quote:

"...a great celebration was held in the heavens..."

“At the wondrous moment you were born, as you took your first breath, a great celebration was held in the heavens and twelve magnificent gifts were granted to you.”
~ Charlene Costanzo, The Twelve Gifts of Birth

Yesterday, Day 4 of the 31-Day Celebrate You! Challenge, I celebrated my commitment to health.

First, about a week ago I received a perk through Klout from Tom’s of Maine. I was given a free sample (pictured below) of toothpaste, toothbrush, and mouthwash because I’m a Klout influencer (I’m still trying to own that phrase!). I am under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company. However, since I finished my last tube of toothpaste, it seemed like a good time to give this sample a try … and I mention it because it fits in with the theme of the day.

Tom's of Maine

First, a bit about my Tom’s of Maine experience. I tried their toothpaste years ago and thought it was foul. They must have changed their formulation because it tasted just fine. That said, I’m more of a tooth-gel type of person, so don’t know if I’d buy more.

The mouthwash, however, was fantastic. I’ve made the switch to non-alcoholic mouthwash and this is one of the best tasting ones I’ve found. Since I like what Tom’s of Maine stands for, I’ll definitely buy more.

Now on to my day of celebrating my commitment to health. Notice I did not say “celebrating my health” … for I awoke for the second day in a row with bad back pain. But, thanks to someone I met at a networking meeting, I found a chiropractor whose office is close to my home. I made an appointment for that afternoon and felt better after I left. My healing will be a process, as it always is with my back, but now I have a clear plan of action to bring my back to normal.

I’ve always been pretty healthy, but a couple of months ago I took my more general interest in my health up a few notches. I bought a Nurtibullet and now have at least one green smoothie every day. You can see how I started this off with a 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse in my two-part video series for my online food show, Carma’s Cookery. (Part 1 | Part 2)

treesBeing forced to seek out a chiropractor has reminded me why I’ve always had one where ever I lived. I can’t say why I let it slide since I arrived in Long Beach. But rest assured, that will no longer be the case. I really liked this one and plan to go back … regularly.

On my way home, I was suddenly stopped by the beauty of the line of trees I was passing. Trust me, this picture does not do them justice. They all had smooth bark and there was a mystic, ethereal quality to the moment. (Click on the image to see a larger picture.)

And that brings me to a spiritual aspect of health. I’ve also started meditating recently and find it to be very calming (although my ADD mind still makes it a bit challenging). That said, when I first started I could barely last 2 minutes. Now I easily last 10-15 minutes. For me, meditation helps me take control of the chaos in my head, as well as feel more in tune with the divine. I recommend it whole-heartedly.

How did you celebrate you yesterday?
