social media talkingThere are lots of ways to develop content for your blog or electronic newsletter. I’ve talked about some before. One newer way that can work well is to monitor social media for informational trends.

What are members of your target audience talking about in social media?

What are leaders in your industry posting about?

What posts in social media (relevant to your audience) are getting the most activity?

The answers to these questions can give you great insights into what information your ideal clients are looking for. So how do you monitor this information? There are several free online tools available. Here are just a sample.

  • Hootsuite, a web-based dashboard, allows you to monitor multiple social networks all in one place.
  • TweetReach is a social analytics tool that helps you find out who is reading your tweets and how they are being shared.
  • PeerIndex helps you determine your online authority and who your online brand advocates are. This information can help you uncover which topics are best for you to focus on and who to connect with to help spread the word.
  • Want to know who is mentioning you in social media? SocialMention pulls data from numerous social media services to give you pretty darn accurate, real-time information.
