Giving Back

I believe in giving back to the world in a variety of ways … through my creativity, my service and my bank account. I practice tithing and I support charitable organizations in whose mission I believe. This not only makes sense to me on a personal and spiritual level, it also is good business. When you work with me, you are helping me contribute to the following organizations in a variety of ways.

Charitable Organizations I Support

The Vern Spence Educational Fund

Dad and Me in 1982

The Vern Spence Educational Fund, created in memorial to my father, who died January 25, 2011, helps high school graduates further their educational goals.

An educator for most of his life, Dad felt very strongly that all students should have a chance to attend college — not just the affluent ones. Since this is a relatively new charitable organization, they are starting out locally with students from Sonoma County, Calif.

If you want to learn more about my Dad, you can read his obituary here.

The Nature Conservancy

The Nature ConservancyI strongly believe in protecting the environment, not only for current generations, but those to come, as well. The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.

World Wildlife Fund

World Wildlife FundAn important part of any environment is the wildlife that inhabits it. The world’s leading conservation organization, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. WWF’s unique way of working combines global reach with a foundation in science, involves action at every level from local to global, and ensures the delivery of innovative solutions that meet the needs of both people and nature.

The Unstoppable Foundation

As you may have noticed, I’m a big supporter of education. The Unstoppable Foundation’s mission is to bring education and sustainable living to all people of the world. They happen to be starting in Africa, including Kenya, where I grew up. So I feel a strong affinity for this organization.

The Planetary Society

The Planetary SocietyYes, I admit it, I’m a science geek. When I was in high-school I looked into becoming an astronomer. That’s when I discovered The Planetary Society (through my idol, Carl Sagan) and have been following and supporting them ever since. The Planetary Society sponsors projects that will seed innovative space technologies, nurtures creative young minds, and is a vital advocate for our future in space.
