What Guido the Killer Taught Me

Today I want to talk about Guido the Killer and what he illustrates about personality and Owning Your Awesome.

Weekday Wisdom with Carma Spence Episode 7

Now you may not know Guido the Killer. In fact, technically I don’t know Guido the Killer. Guido the killer probably doesn’t exist.

You see, Guido the Killer was a character in a spam email I received a few years ago. And I got this email about three times before it stopped. But it’s the most memorable phishing scam I’ve ever received — more than the Nigerian princes, more than the demands for refunds for products no one bought. All these things are very clever spam. But Guido the killer takes the cake!

Let me tell you a little bit about what I received.

I received an email from Guido the Killer and he said, in summary,

Someone has a contract out on you and has hired me to kill you. But I’ve been watching you and I think you don’t deserve to be killed. Therefore if you’ll pay me what my client was going to pay me, I won’t kill you.

Now, this is obviously spam because no hit man in their right mind or worth their salt would ever do that because that would ruin their reputation as a hit man. But I think the reason why it was so clever — I mean I can’t imagine it actually got any responses it was looking for — but what made it stand out was it had personality.

I almost feel like I know this Guido guy and all he did was send me an email asking me for money. So what does this teach you about life, business, and Owning Your Awesome?

Simply this: Let your personality out.

Don’t hide from your tribe. You are uniquely you. And the clients and customers that were meant to learn whatever it is you help people with or teach, they need you to be you.

Let your personality out on your website, in social media, and in videos, like I’m doing with Weekday Wisdom. When your personality shines, you will be memorable to the people who count.

Remember:
Don’t box yourself in.
Spread your wings and fly.
You are capable of more than you know.
