Weekday Wisdom Episode 81
Is it time for some pruning in your life and/or business? Read on to discover my thoughts on this topic and why it has been on my mind.
Over the weekend — actually over the last two weeks — I’ve been going through this pruning process, so to speak.
You see, sometimes there are pieces of your life or your business that no longer work, but it’s hard to let go because you’ve used it, or been with it, or experienced it for so long it’s become a habit. It is comfortable — even when it isn’t. That habit no longer serves you.
In my case, a couple of weeks ago I received an email from someone who has purchased the trademark for the phrase, “Own Your Awesome.” She just happened to have purchased it three years or more after I started using it. However, I didn’t buy the trademark at the time because I didn’t have the money back then. So, she bought it first. That’s fair.
That said, I’ve had to go through a mourning process because I am the Own Your Awesome Mentor, right?
Then I started to realize that for the direction my business is going in, “Own Your Awesome” was really hard to make fit. I’ve tried, but I just can’t seem to make it fit. I’ve been really struggling with it over the past few months since I started working with branding and business coaches.
Over this past weekend, one of the readings in Mass was about how God is the vine (John 15:5), and that he prunes the branches so that the grapes will grow. And I realized that letting go of Own Your Awesome is kind of pruning my life and business so that it can bear better fruit.
You see, Own Your Awesome was there for me at a time I needed it. It helped make me the person I am today. It helped me build to be a stronger, better, and more courageous person. But it no longer serves me as a brand. In fact, it’s actually been holding me back from doing what I want to do, because I couldn’t figure out how to make it all fit.
So, I’m pruning it. And I’ve decided to Own My Awesome and just go by Carma Spence because I’m good enough.
So I challenge you: Where in your life or business are you clinging onto something that no longer serves you? Is it time to prune it off so that your blossoms can grow to full bloom? So that you can bare bigger, better fruit?
Check this out. You’d be surprised what you have been identifying with or holding onto that really just doesn’t fit where you’re going anymore. It served you well in its time, but it’s time to let it go. And I understand that there is a grieving process that goes with that. But it’s the best thing.
Since I’ve made that decision to just own my name, I feel so much stronger and lighter. And I hope you’ll go with me on this journey.
Don’t box yourself in.
Spread your wings and fly.Because of you — yes you right there — are capable of more than you know.
And perhaps, a little pruning will help you get there.
