Selecting Strategies for Your Business Plan

by | Oct 21, 2010 | Planning Your Business

strategyNow that you’ve identified your three to nine objectives for the New Year, you’ll need to plan out how your are going to reach them. Given all the methods, techniques and tools available to creative entrepreneurs today, there are a multitude of ways you can use to reach your objectives. But not all of them are appropriate for you, your business or your turnaround time.

There’s article marketing, email marketing, social networking, paid advertising, public speaking, and so many more strategies you can leverage to grow your business. What you need to do now is take each objective and decide on which one (or two) strategies you’ll focus on to reach that goal.

If your objectives are focused … which they should be if they fit your mission, vision and values … you’ll find that one strategy will help you reach more than one goal. This is perfect, because you want to choose three to five strategies to focus on for the year. That way you won’t be putting all your eggs into one methodology basket, and you won’t be stretching yourself too thin with too many ways to reach a goal.

When choosing your strategies, keep these things in mind:

  • Will this strategy help you reach your goal within the time frame you’ve selected? Some strategies take longer to pan out, so keep that in mind.
  • Does this strategy fit with my mission, vision and values for my business? For example, article marketing may be a great strategy, but it doesn’t fit all businesses.
  • Do I have the resources and interest to keep this strategy going for as long as it takes? Again, I happen to love article marketing, but not everyone enjoys writing. If you think you’ll fizz out on the strategy, don’t bother with it.
