The second step in getting beyond your glass wall, that invisible shield that keeps you apart from your potential, is to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.
In this third part of the presentation I did for Toastmasters District 1 Speakers Bureau in September 2013, I talk about this step and how to make it a part of your daily life.
“Gratitude opens the door to the power, the wisdom, the creativity of the universe. You open the door through gratitude.”
~ Deepak Chopra
What this quote means in business:
I like to say that the more you appreciate, the more you have to appreciate. When you are grateful for your business as it stands right now, focusing on all the things about it that are going right, you will not only be happier, but you will become a magnet for opportunities to make things even better.
For example, a little more than three years ago I was in an abusive relationship, supporting the two of us with my business and barely making ends meet. I was on food stamps. I was unhappy. And it was in this dark time that I took up the habit of a gratitude journal.
Every morning, I would write down five things that I was grateful for in my life and business.
I’m not going to lie … it was really difficult to come up with five things to be grateful for. I was profoundly unhappy. But I stuck to it. That morning ritual was my island of light.
That island of light has grown so much bigger. (more…)
Yesterday was the hardest day to find celebration in. I woke up with a swollen eye and a client said they were going to pay me two weeks past the time I planned on using that money. But blessings and celebration I still found.
Remember how I said I went to see a friend speak the other day? Well, apparently while I was there, I was mauled by mosquitos. I have two bites on my forehead, one or more on my right ring finger and three on my back.
I’m allergic to mosquito bites. When one bites me, the bite swells up to the size of a 50-cent piece or more.
The two bites on my forehead swelled so bad, I looked like a half-Neanderthal when I woke up. And, as the day progressed, the swelling fluid dripped down my face. By the time I went to bed … as pictured above … my eyelid was swollen, and so was the space below my eye.
But, the Universe knew that I was determined to find a celebration through all the discomfort and so brought me several blessings throughout the day.
“Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” ~ Rumi What this quote means for business: If everyone we met in our lives and businesses was easy as pie to get along with, there would be no growth. Be grateful that there are […]
The manager of the hotel, Sonny Kapoor, is a young man and a big dreamer. He firmly believed that everything will be alright in the end. And, that if now is not alright, then it is not at the end.
What a beautiful sentiment. And, what if we approached life and our business with this attitude? What if we just expected the best and always strove to achieve it? What if we didn’t give up easily, but kept pushing on toward our vision?

Carma’s note: When I read this article in a newsletter I receive, I immediately wanted to share it with you. I have faced the following challenges and, occasionally, they rear their demonic heads again. As women, we all face these “opportunities for growth” and I hope that this article inspires you to rise above them.
10 Things Women Should Stop Doing To Themselves
By Angela Giles
In order to have a new ending, you have to start a new beginning. As Arnold Bennett once said, “The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.”
This is absolute truth. However, before you can begin this process of evolution you have to stop behaviors that may be holding you back.
Here are some suggestions to get you moving forward:
“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”
A couple days ago, I shared a video in which I talked about release. The next step in creating the life you want is gratitude. In today’s video, I talk about having gratitude for what you have and writing it down in a gratitude journal every day.
