Weekday Wisdom, Episode 44

Do you stay on top of your healthcare? That is the fourth true or false question from the quiz in Episode 40 … and what we’re going to talk about today.

Do you take care of your health?

Today is the fourth in a series of 16 videos in which I go into a little deeper dive into the true or false questions that were in the quiz back in Episode 40. And today’s question, question number four, is:

“I get checkups, go to the dentist, and take preventative precautions.”
True or false?

Staying on top of your health by taking preventative care is one of the best ways to maintain your health overall. And this includes all the basics: Getting your teeth cleaned, getting your annual physical, etc.

For most people, getting your teeth cleaned once or twice a year is good. But for other people, you need to do it more often. I know when I was younger, I had to go about every other month because of when I lived in Africa, I had been exposed to really high doses of fluoride and it turned my teeth black. Yeah, I know it sounds weird.

Anyway, you want to maintain your health orally and that means going to your dentist regularly. A lot of people let this slide, but, oh my goodness, you can have heart attacks if your teeth aren’t healthy. Your mouth affects everything. So, definitely go the dentist regularly.

Then you want to do the basics in health care. You want to get your annual screening exams, such as mammograms and prostate exams, whatever your doctor recommends for your age and health situation. I know these exams are not fun. And sometimes they are rather demoralizing. But, if you can catch bad things before they get worse, you could save your life and save the quality of your life.

Preventative health care is so, so, so important. I can’t emphasize it enough.

If you are not going to the doctor at least once a year to get your annual physical, start doing it now.

Because people are depending on you. And they can’t get the help that you are here to give them if you are unhealthy.

Remember this:
Don’t box yourself in.
Spread your wings and fly.
Because you — yes you — are capable of more than you know.

And you’ll only reach that potential if you take care of your health.
