What is the H.E.A.R.T. of Business?

by | Feb 24, 2010 | Building Relationships

For one, it is the name of my recently re-designed electronic newsletter. But it is also an acronym for the things that I believe are important in creating an authentic and sustainable business.

Harmony

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

If you are to be happy and prosperous in your business, your business needs to be in harmony with who you are … what you think, what you say, what you feel. Without this harmony, you find keeping your business afloat to be a chore and a struggle.

Enthusiasm

“Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity.” ~ Bo Bennett

When you wake up in the morning, are you excited about what you do? Are inspired by your business and serving your customers and clients? Are you motivated to take the actions to develop your business further? Do you find creative ideas for your business just flow to you? If not, you are lacking this key component of an authentic business.

Resources

“The greatest achievement of the human spirit is to live up to one’s opportunities and make the most of one’s resources.” ~ Marquis de Vauvenargues

To grow your business, you need to take advantage and leverage the resources available to you. These resources can be internal — your skills, strengths and passions — or external — team members, vendors, etc. Either way, you need to recognize the resources you have access to and make use of them.

Action

“Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.” ~ Andrew Jackson, quoting Napoleon Bonaparte

Businesses are built on action. You need to do in order to thrive. Don’t just think about what you want to do in your business … do it! If you fail sometimes, that’s O.K. Just remember, you can’t move forward unless you take action and move.

Timing

“Life is all about timing… the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable… attainable. Have the patience, wait it out. It’s all about timing.” ~ Stacey Charter

As you’ve probably heard before, there is a time and a place for everything. Take your enthusiasm and resources, and move to action when it is the right time. Always keep an eye out for “Is this the right time?” Being ahead of your time is not always a good thing. Sometimes sitting on something is of strategic benefit. Just be careful that you’re avoid action for the right reasons and not out of fear or indecision.

These are the things I believe are important for an authentic business, and that is why I re-organized my ezine publishing strategy and created this new ezine.
