Read an Ebook this Week!

by | Mar 6, 2011 | Marketing & Selling

ebookMarch 6-12 marks “Read an Ebook Week” an observation that celebrates the growing trend of digitized books.

Ebooks come in many forms, as a standard has not emerged. There is the traditional PDF format that you can read on your computer. And then there are the formats that you can read on the various readers currently on the market, including Amazon’s Kindle, Apple’s iPad, and Barnes & Noble’s Nook.

Read an E-Book Week was first registered with Chase’s Calendar of Events, a day by day directory of special days, weeks, and months used by event planners, in 2004.

The public and media were initially wary of e-books and many doors were closed to promotion. But over time, ebooks have become increasingly popular and, in some cases, preferred.

I chose to mention this observation because making your books available in ebook format is becoming increasingly important for the success of your book and the business it promotes. You want to make sure that in addition to a traditional physical book, you also make your work available in ebook format. This is fairly easy to do with services such as Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords.

Also, publishing your books as ebooks first is a very good way to test the veracity of a large project. You can quickly and easily create ebooks for sale that test market your title and topic, possibly saving you a lot of time an energy on a more comprehensive physical book.
